Our Story

East Finchley meets Japanese Izakaya

Umami, derived from the Japanese word “umai” meaning “delicious”, is the fifth basic taste sensation alongside sweet, salty, sour and bitter.

Umami can be more than a taste, it can be an experience—a journey through savoury, meaty, and deeply satisfying flavours. It is our hope that through our restaurant, you can discover umami your way. Hence the name “MyUmami”.

Inspired by Japanese cuisine, we decided to use the techniques found in Izakaya-style food preparation. Incorporating ingredients and flavours from all over the world creates the blended fusion that makes MyUmami unique.

Located 5 minutes away from East Finchley Underground station on the Northern Line, MyUmami is easy to get to from anywhere in London. We are proud to serve customers from all over London, and beyond.

Fabulous food and good service. We absolutely loved the aubergine and miso nigiri! Really selection of vegetarian and pescatarian options. Wide selection of vegetarian options. Clearly labelled and everything we had was delicious.

Booked at the bar on a Friday night – as all other tables were already booked – great sign in my opinion. Glad we did as we got to see some of the specialities made in front of us. Salmon set – fresh and high quality. Spicy tuna rolls delicious. Beef carpaccio – super tasty. Actually couldn’t fault the food. Great to have food of this quality so close in East Finchley. The Ox cheek dumpling special was our favourite, the vegetables brilliant and the sushi next level. The hospitality was warm and family friendly. We will be coming again to explore the menu further.

What a great addition to East Finchley – a proper little restaurant, nicely designed interior, interesting menu and great food. Clearly a passion project. Service was a bit chaotic and stretched – because they were busy – but I expect that will improve.
